COMMUNITY AND YOUNG ARTS

Community and Young Arts, Volunteer Group

Mission Statement

Members of the Young Arts group are dedicated to enriching the experiences of members of the community, children and young people through the arts.

The volunteer group can offer time, ideas and financial support to develop arts projects in a variety of environments, including schools and other settings that children and young people may access in the Manchester and Trafford area.

In 2023 Young Arts was successful in securing a grant of £250 from The Arts Society. This was matched with funds from The Arts Society Bowdon and supported Art and Architecture in Manchester, an art project for pupils at Dixon’s Brookland Academy (formally Manchester Health Academy).

The last few years have been a difficult period for people to come together as a community so we were delighted to support Cherry Tree Primary School in Lymm as they embarked on a whole school art project. This is an outdoor art project; a historical timeline on the playground walls that depicts the history of Lymm, Warrington and the North West.

Space4Autism Augmented Reality Trail

The first of this kind of Young Arts project supported by The Arts Society Bowdon has now been successfully realised! The artwork created by children and young people during art sessions at Space4Autism was displayed from May 28th to June 5th 2023 at Teggs Nose Country Park, Macclesfield.

The charity supports children, young people and adults with ASC (Autistic Spectrum Condition). In art sessions by their resident artist, Space4Autism art members have created fabulous virtual reality drawings, animations and videos inspired by wildlife.

The pictures when viewed with a mobile phone app spring to life, flowers move and change colour, birds sing and butterflies’ flutter! The images are truly awesome and showcase the creative use of augmented reality technology.

The Young Arts team were thrilled to support this project which certainly fulfilled our aim to enrich the experiences of children and young people through the arts. We are looking forward to sharing news about our other Young Arts projects and as ever are grateful for every raffle ticket sold which enable ideas to become reality.

Work in Schools

Here is some of the work schools have done in previous years:

The work produced at Claremont Road primary School, Manchester, with the help of the artist DeeDee Dewar. Our Society funded her to work with the children on the theme of Egyptian Art.

Children at Claremont Primary School Manchester were  working on an Islamic Art project with the artist Deedee Dewar. The project was  funded by The Arts Society Bowdon.  See below the finished work in situ! Underneath are sections completed by different groups of children.
