The Arts Society Bowdon was established in 1981. It is a friendly and welcoming society affiliated to The Arts Society a leading arts education charity with a global network of local Societies which bring people together through a shared curiosity for the arts.

We offer illustrated talks given by lecturers of national and international standing on a wide variety of subjects related to the arts, with an emphasis on fine art.

We host one or two Guest Events each year which in recent years they have taken the form of a special Society lunch and lecture and these have proved popular with the members and their guests.

When circumstances allow, we offer two one-day visits each year to places of interest to members and a longer visit of several days for example in October 2021 we went to the south of England and took in a performance at Glyndebourne. Please keep an eye on this page and our trips page for details of this year's trip(s).

Our volunteers undertakes various projects in the local community such as restoration work on the library at Tabley House and church recording at Hale Chapel and St. James’ Church, Gatley. We also sponsor educational work in local schools and colleges. One of our recent projects has been a Heritage Trail of Bowdon and we expect to establish more trails in the local area in the coming years.  You can see more about the Society’s activities in the volunteering section of this site.

Non-members are welcome to join us as a guest at a charge of £10 which we will refund should you decide to become a member. Please let us know you’re coming by emailing bowdondfas@hotmail.co.uk so that we can manage the numbers.

Latest News

We are currently planning a visit to Ness Botanic Gardens on the Wirral, owned by the University of Liverpool. The planning is in its early stages but we need to get some idea of the numbers as soon as possible to allow us to book our entry to the gardens and arrange coach hire.

When: probably Wednesday 27th June

What: We would organise a guided tour and then leave people to explore independently. Refreshments are available but they do not take bookings so everyone would be responsible for their own eating arrangements.

If you are interested in joining us, please email Hilary Forrest, our Visits Secretary know by emailing her as soon as possible at jenhilfor@gmail.com
